May 3, 2014 Dance with The Power House Band
The Power House Band plays its Black Diamond debut!
Saturday, May 3, 2104. Teaching begins at 7:30 pm, dance 8:00 – 11:00. Requested donation $8 adult, $4 under 18. In the Black Diamond Community Hall, Port Angeles.
Come prepared to be blown away by the young Power House Band! You gotta be good to live up to a name like that, and these kids do it with style. Led by the powerful 14 year old fiddler Kate Powers, and backed up by her siblings and friends, this is an up-and-coming local band. Kate already plays in the first violin section in the Port Angeles symphony, and can fiddle up a storm. She plays a variety of dance music from Old Time to ragtime to a Venezuelan waltz that will amaze you. The Power House band has a big strong sound, and a huge appetite for new tunes and variations to keep the evening interesting.
Caller Carol Piening returns to bring fun dances for everyone
April 5, 2014 Dance features French-Canadian band: La Famille Leger
Irresistible music from Quebec for April dance!
Saturday, April 5, 2104. Teaching begins at 7:30 pm, dance 8:00 – 11:00. Requested donation $8 adult, $4 under 18. In the Black Diamond Community Hall, Port Angeles.
Our perennial favorite family band always rocks the house! Here’s a YouTube video of just half their band, and I bet you can’t sit still listening to them 🙂 (Devon and Dejah)
“Born of a time when family and friends would gather in the warmth of the kitchens of Québec and New Brunswick to play and dance time-honoured tunes together, La Famille Léger keeps that rich tradition vitally alive. The Légers play the dancing music of French Canada – the music handed down through generations in the New World, the music of back porches and kitchen parties. Patriarch Louis Léger leads the band on the one-row melodeon (a type of button accordion), son Devon plays fiddle, Devon’s mom Barbara plays guitar and his wife, Dejah is on piano. This proudly “old school” family band will have your own family dancing and joining in on the fun”
Eric Curl from Seattle is our caller for this dance. Eric started calling in 1996 in California and Colorado before moving Seattle in 2007. He works for Boeing as a mechanical engineer, and is now in demand to call dances in Washington, Oregon and British Columbia. Eric calls smooth-flowing dances that keep dancers of all abilities moving.
